Maffra is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is in the Wellington Shire local government area. Situated 220 km east of Melbourne, Maffra has a population of 4,200 and relies mainly on dairy farming and other agriculture. The town hosts a Mardi Gras in March, the Maffra and District Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Show in October and a tennis tournament at Easter. Maffra is known to have one of the prettiest main streets (Johnson St) in Victoria, although (controversially) the Wellington Shire is tearing down the 100+ year old trees that line it. The Maffra Meat Pie is famous and has won many awards. People call in and buy cold pies to take home to other towns. Maffra also has a secondhand bookshop with over two hundred thousand books of all types. Booklovers and collectors allow several hours there, if you like you can stay upstairs in the bed and breakfast. The Maffra Shed is nearly completed.
