Review One of Rio's loveliest hostels, the Ipanema Beach House offers accommodation in a converted two-storey house on one of Ipanema's most charming streets. Staying here is very much like staying in a private Ipanema villa with 30 strangers who may just become your closest friends by the end of your stay.
Attracting a fun but laid-back crowd, the Ipanema Beach House is situated in two separate houses. The main house has six- and nine-bed dorm rooms in the main house with two-toned wood floors and tall ceilings adding character to the otherwise basic quarters. There's also a peaceful veranda in front of the house, a lounge, a kitchen and plenty of space for relaxing. A separate house behind the hostel houses three private rooms for those seeking a bit more space or privacy.
Between the two buildings is a stretch of grassy lawn and an inviting swimming pool, with lounge chairs scattered about. The pool, by our estimation, makes this place an incredible find. Beyond the pool, there's also an outdoor bar, where travellers can exchange
neighborhood tips or surf tales over caipirinhas in the evening.
You'll find a good selection of restaurants around the corner along Rua Garcia D'Avila. You'll also find one of our
favorite ice-cream shops in the city; serves all the favorites
as well as Amazonian treats like cupuaçu and açai.
