Fakse is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 147 km², and has a total population of 12,243 (2005). Its mayor is René Tuekær Hansen, a former social democrat who has represented a local list since November, 1993. The main town and site of its municipal council is the town of Fakse. Neighboring municipalities are Stevns to the east, Vallø to the north, and Rønnede to the west. To the south is Fakse Bay (Fakse Bugt). Fakse is home to Faxe Bryggeri, a relatively large brewery producing many kinds of beer and soda. The town also has a very big limestone quarry, owned by Faxe Kalk.
