Frederiksværk is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Frederiksborg County on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark, located between Lake Arre (Arresø) and Roskilde Fjord. The municipality covers an area of 90 km², and has a total population of 20,340 (2005). Its mayor is Helge Friis, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Frederiksværk. Within the municipality's borders, covering much of the eastern part of the municipality, lies Lake Arre, Denmark's largest lake. The lake gives the municipality much of its character. In the northern part of the municipality is Tisvilde Hegn, a forest which is known for its ancient and unique gnarled trees. Neighboring municipalities are Skævinge and Helsinge to the east, Hundested and Jægerspris (separated by the Roskilde Fjord) to the west, and Frederikssund to the south. To the north is the Kattegat.
