Hjørring is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in North Jutland County on the west coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 311.4 km², and has a total population of 35,475 (2005). Its mayor is Bent Brown, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. Neighboring municipalities are Sæby and Sindal to the east, Hirtshals to the north, Løkken-Vrå to the west, and Brønderslev to the south. Part of its western border is defined by the waters of Jammer Bay (Jammerbugten), and beyond it the waters of the Skagerrak.
