Varde is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Ribe County on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 251 km², and has a total population of 20,138 (2005). Its mayor is Kaj Nielsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. Neighboring municipalities are Helle and Ølgod to the east, Egvad to the north, Blaabjerg and Blåvandshuk to the west, and Esbjerg to the south. Part of its southern border is defined by the waters of Ho Bay (Ho Bugt).
