Lonely Planet 'This excellent hostel basically a series of rooms in the out buildings of a Georgian home around a central court yard, has one large comfortable dorm a single/twin and two doubles all en suite. Provides net access. Highly recommended'

The Rough Guide 'Not so much a backpackers (though there is a six bed dorm, beds £14.95) as a self styled superior budget bed and breakfast. The rambling place (part was once a shoe factory) has simple but smartly decorated en suite rooms available as single/twin/double and triple, one with a galley, another with a private kitchen, all very tastefully done. There's a fully equipped kitchen/lounge plus internet access. Prices include continental breakfast.'

Berwick on Tweed Backpackers is located in the centre of town only 5 minutes walk from the bus and train stations. The hostel is part of a Georgian town house perfectly situated inside the Elizabethan town Walls.

Berwick is the perfect location for the budget traveller. Leave the city behind because there's loads to do around Berwick on Tweed and North Northumberland.

Take a walk around the Elizabethan town walls and admire the views south to the holy Island of Lindisfarne and beyond to the Farne Islands.

Once you've had enough of castles you could head for the Cheviot hills, brilliant walking country on the Northern reaches of the Pennines. If that all sounds to much like hard work there's plenty of easy costal and river walks close by the hostel.
