Cannes (Provençal Occitan: Canas in classical norm or Cano in Mistralian norm) is a city and commune in southern France, located on the Riviera, in the Alpes-Maritimes département.
Cannes is a southern city in the country of France. Its population is around 69,700 They are the economical center of France; some even call it, the “Beverly Hills” of France. Each year, they hold an annual Film Festival. In the upcoming year, Diane Kruger will be the Master of Ceremonies for the 60th Festival de Cannes. She will welcome on May 16th 2007 the President Stephen Frears and his Jury onto the stage of the Palais des Festivals. She will also host the Closing Ceremony, on Sunday May 27th, during which the Awards will be announced. If you were going to come here to Cannes, you must be sure to go to the Annual Film Festival, but also to some of the many landmarks in Cannes. One of those landmarks in Cannes is Mont Chevalier (right). It was built in 1890, and was used for the cavalry. To some people, it may represent England’s Big Ben. Croisette La (left), not necessarily a landmark, but more-so a park, or neighborhood. Also, Cannes, a city which ranks second in France for conventions after Paris, is surely one of the great destinations worldwide for business tourism. Located just a few kilometers from the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport, Cannes is also accessible from the Airport of Cannes Mandelieu, the second busiest in France for private aircraft. Therefore, the Festival Hall, the bridgehead of the tourist economy in Cannes, hosts nearly 150 events each year - conventions, festivals (like the film festival), and international markets - for an estimated 2 milliards French francs in economic fallout. Cannes is also located near a body of water, and therefore, is a main shipping port in France.
