Amorbach is a town in the district of Miltenberg, Bavaria, Germany. It was founded in 1253, having grown up as a settlement around the far older Amorbach Abbey, and celebrated its 750th anniversary in 2003. The name does not originate from the Roman god Amor. It may come from Orbach or Otterbach, or possibly from Amor, disciple of Saint Pirmin and traditionally the founder of the abbey. It used to be in Hesse, bordering on Bavaria and Baden. It became a part of Bavaria in 1816.
