Bad Urach, a recognised climatic health resort with medicinal springs. lies on the northern edge of the Swabian Mountains, in the valley of the River Erms, and is surrounded by mountains densely overgrown with forests.
The ruins of the Hohen-urach castle, dating back to the 11th century, are perched on a hill above the town.
The youth hostel is situated below the ruins, on the way to the Urach waterfalls and is surrounded by grasslands and forests.
