You'll find the old monastery hostel on the West coast of Connemara in Letterfrack Co. Galway near Clifden town. It is situated on the bottom of the Twelve Bens right next to the Connemara National Park.
On the border of the Atlantic Ocean you'll have easy access to the beautiful Renvyle Peninsula, Kylemore Abbey which is just a few kilometres down the road. The Old monastery Hostel Was built in 1840 by the Ellis's a quaker family who used it as their family home.
After that it was used for a hundred years as a monastery by the Christian Brothers. Now the house can sleep 50 people in dormitories and private rooms.
If you decide to stay the owner Stephen Gannon puts on a complimentary breakfast every morning of fresh baked home-made scones, brown soda bread and healthy pinhead oatmeal.
Also, subject to the amount of bookings, Stephen puts on an evening meal, a vegetarian buffet at budget price. Since the Hostel started in 1990 it has been used for different occasions, Sharon Shannon recorded her 'Diamond Mountain Sessions' there in 1999.
