Argenta is a town in the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, north east Italy. It is located about 30 km southeast of Ferrara, and midway between Ferrara and Ravenna. It is in a predominantly flat agricultural region and is near, and at times at the edge of, the Comacchio lagoon wetlands.
The town was the site of several battles over the centuries, the last being in April 1945 when the area was defended by the Germans against the Allied advance during Operation Roast's Battle of the Argenta Gap. Much of the Comacchio lagoon is today a wildlife sanctuary and Argenta is home of the Marsh Museum which offers many facilities for bird study.
