Ballater is a burgh in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on the River Dee, (see Royal Deeside}, just east of the Cairngorm Mountains. It is a centre for hikers and is known for its spring water, once said to cure scrofula. The Victoria Barracks is used by the Royal Guard for nearby Balmoral Castle. Birthplace of Sir Patrick Geddes.
Balmoral Castle is situated approx 12km away from Ballater and members of the Royal Family can often be seen driving around the village.
Local stores such as the butchers on the high street and an outdoor sports shops have royal crests bestowed upon them.
