Once upon a time the High Street Hostel was the only independent hostel in Edinburgh. Yes, it was ahead of its time. Let's Go have referred to it as a “hostel paradise” and it is currently their top listed Edinburgh hostel.
High Street attracts staff and guests that absolutely love the place. Even if you’re only staying for one night, it’s a chilled out and fun place with a pool table in the busy main lounge and a quieter non-smoking lounge alongside reception.
We are in a good, historic location in the center of the Old Town in Blackfriars Street. The Earl of Morton used to live here – it was quite a while ago, he ruled Scotland at one time and was an enemy of Mary, Queen of Scots – the front entrance and the fireplace date back to 1561! This place shouldn’t be a hostel, it should be a museum!
A Free 2 hour walking tour of the Royal Mile starts at 10am every day and this is with a fun and sexy (well, we think so) MacBackpackers tour guide. Did we mention that it’s a free tour?
Our reception staff are always friendly and welcoming and know a lot about Edinburgh – feel free to ask them anything!
