Melrose sits in the centre of the Scottish Border country. It was founded as a Roman fort to guard the banks of the River Tweed, and later gained prominence as a result of its Cistercian Abbey whose ruins still dominate the town.
The hostel, a former Georgian mansion, overlooks the Abbey and provides great facilities and warm welcome. The Abbey is also the starting point for St. Cuthbert's Way cross-Border walking route which finishes on Lindisfarne, Holy Island. Popular with cyclists and walkers as well as tourists.
