Our hostel takes its name from a section of the Northern Drakensberg that is shaped like a natural amphitheatre. It is here that the famous Tugela Falls has its source, rising at Mont Aux Sources (3282 metres up) and then plunging down the 1km basalt wall, into Royal Natal National Park. This is the Highest waterfall in Africa and in fact the 2nd Highest waterfall in the World.
This section is found nearer the foot of the Amphitheatre, close to the bottom section of Royal Natal National Park with a picture postcard view of the Amphitheatre from the lawn. The lodge is bright and airy has a swimming pool, independent self-catering chalets, restaurant and a thatched cocktail bar. All rooms are heated.
No need to bring anything along as the restaurant (which opens at 07h00) serves gorgeous food and light snacks there is a tuck-shop for extras.
Prices begin at R5 a meal. The al-a-carte menu runs until 14h45, after which we offer a SET three-course menu every night @ R60 for meat eaters and R50 for vegetarians. You get a starter, main course and a cocktail or dessert for this price.
The fully-stocked bar has a range of interesting music and alcohol. Bottled water and other soft drinks are available. The hostel also has a simple tuck shop for extra food.
A river winds its way through the lands and there is a small dam. For those with a head for heights we already offer rapp jumping from mountain peaks and bridges. The idea of the hostel is that it is a base from which you can explore different sections of the Drakensberg Park each day.
