Kalkan is a town on the Turkish Mediterranean coast, which averages of 300 days of sunshine a year. The area includes many historical sites and many fine beaches. The word Kalkan is Turkish for 'shield'.
In the Kalkan region tourism is by far the biggest financial enterprise, although no exact figure can be fingered it is probably providing the area with millions of British pounds and American dollars.Tourism has been present, in large numbers, since the late 1980s- the early 1990s, there is now over 200 restaurants in Kalkan. Travel agencies, restuarants, bars, one or two nightclubs, hotels, apartments and private villas are all present in Kalkan. Although there is lots of 'cheap build' villas there is also those priced in the millions of £s.
