Mykolaiv (Ukrainian: Миколаїв, Russian: Никола́ев, translit. Nikolayev; also referred to as or Mykolayiv, Nikolaev, or Nikolayev) is a major city in southern Ukraine. It is the administrative center of the Mykolaiv Oblast (province), as well as the administrative center of both the Mykolaivsky and Zhovtnevy Raions (districts) within the oblast. The city itself is also designated as its own separate raion within the oblast, and is located 65 kilometers from the Black Sea along the estuary of the Southern Buh river (where it meets the Inhul River).
