Beatty is a census-designated place and town located on the Amargosa River in Nye County, Nevada. The population was 1,154 at the 2000 census. Wired telephone service numbers for the Beatty central office follow the format: (775) 553-xxxx. The town was named after Jim Beatty who settled on a ranch in the area at the end of the 19th century. In 1905, Beatty became a railway center for the Bullfrog Mining District which included mining towns such as nearby Rhyolite, Nevada.
Beatty is the nearest town to the Yucca Mountain facility (18 miles to the east), and houses Bechtel Corporation's visitor center for the site (as the site itself is in restricted-access land). Beatty is also close to Death Valley National Park.
