The viking with the highest recommended climbing and trekking agency invites you to open the gates to Valhalla, the hostel in the heart of the Andes that is perfect for acclimatization and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere featuring trilingual staff, wood burning stoves, 24 hour hot water, home cooked food, and an open roof terrace with BBQ grill.
Hostel Valhalla is owned and operated by Moggely. Mogge, a Swedish viking and his Ecuadorian wife Ely searched for and found the perfect parcel of land nestled within Ecuador’s “Avenue of the Volcanoes” and built the hostel in 2004. Due to family contacts in and around Machachi, the number one mountain town in Ecuador, we are on very good terms will the local landowners who own the access rights to the mountains in the area.
We will always try to make you feel like a family member and always ready to help with any problems or questions you might have. We consider this very important. As a Scandanavian run agency we are very careful to minimise our impact on the local environment through education and operate in the most ECO-friendly ways possible.
In addition to the hostel we are experts who specialize in Climbing, Trekking, Jungle, Galapagos Tours and designing tailor-made tours to suit the individual or group. Moggely is the biggest climbing and trekking operator in Ecuador and is the most highly recommended by the SAE (South American Explorers Club). All other tours are arranged with reputable agencies in their appropriate fields of expertise. If required we will pick you up from the Quito airport and take you to your chosen Hotel or Hostal. We always aim to offer competitive prices matched by a quality of service that is at least as good as our best competitors.
We also have rooms for rent in Quito at Moggely House on Calama between Amazonas and Juan Leon Mera in the heart of Gringolandia. These rooms are safe and secure, have 24 hour hot water, kitchen facilities, a plant-filled patio, and lounge area.
Hostel Valhalla has room for 45 people plus essentially unlimited camping on our 3.8 ha of property. Everything is new; having been completed in late 2004. It is a three story building with rooftop terrace and BBQ grill. All the rooms are comfortably appointed and a good size. Our location may be rustic but our hostel is not!
The building is located at approximately 3,500 meters of altitude in the countryside south of Machachi just outside the boundary of Cotopaxi National Park. Surrounding the hostel are numerous farms and 16 peaks for your visual delight. There are lots of good picture opportunities here.
All prices below are per person and do not include tax. They are set below the other hostels in the area for equal accommodations.

One Review to “Valhalla Hostel”

I stayed at the Valhalla Hostel in October 2009. The house itself is fine but quite isolated. I was the only guest with my guide and except for one other person doing the cooking and a running TV there was not much of distraction. The weather was cool and wet, and I was cold most of the time. There was one stove in the bedroom (try to light it when the wood is not dry
) and one in the living/dining room. The hut was lacking coziness for me, but it is clean and the showers are hot. If you are in a group and “heat up” the place I am sure you will enjoy it.
