Modern hostel right next to Leuven train station, 12 minutes walk to Grote Markt. Private check-in service, ensuite bathrooms in most rooms, sun deck and a small bar with picnic-area garden. The pick if you're using Leuven as a base for Brussels day trips or arriving late and leaving early.
Both hostels have board games but only Blauwput has a dedicated game room with seating for groups. City Hostel keeps games in the common-area lounge, which is cosier in winter but smaller.
Bring beers from Albert (5-min walk from City Hostel, 8-min from Blauwput) for cheaper-than-bar prices: Westmalle Tripel is around 2.50 EUR a bottle at retail, 6 at the bar.
Friday and Saturday during semester, board games at the hostel happen 6-10pm, then everyone goes to Oude Markt. Outside semester, board games run later and Oude Markt is half-quiet.
Leuven is a bike-theft hotspot: don't leave board games or anything else in unlocked common rooms overnight. Lockers cost nothing at both hostels.
Both hostels have basic games (Catan, Risk, Carcassonne, Cards Against Humanity). Bring something specific if you have a favourite: there are no Leuven shops that sell English-language board games.
