Leopold Chillout Hostel
Old Town heart between Latin Bridge and Sebilj — the highest location score in Sarajevo
Leopold Chillout Hostel sits at Muvekita 2 — the small lane between Latin Bridge (where the assassination of Franz Ferdinand sparked WWI) and Sebilj fountain at the top of Baščaršija. Location score is 9.5/10, the highest of any Sarajevo hostel, and it's the only property in town that's a 3-minute walk from both the bar circuit and the calm of the river promenade. Rooftop terrace, AC, family rooms, BBQ facilities, full event calendar from on-site walking tours through movie nights. 8.6/10 across 337 reviews.
Leopold Chillout Hostel sits on Muvekita 2 — a narrow lane that connects Latin Bridge (300 metres south) to Sebilj fountain (a 6-minute walk north). The 9.5/10 location score is the highest in Sarajevo, and it earns it: from the front door you're 3 minutes from where Franz Ferdinand was shot in 1914, 6 minutes from the top of Baščaršija, and 4 minutes from the Sarajevo Cathedral. Tram 3 to the airport stops on Mula Mustafe Bašeskije, two blocks north.
The building is a 19th-century Old Town townhouse, recently refurbished with AC, fresh paint and modern soundproofing. Dorms are 4-, 6- and 8-bed configurations with proper privacy curtains and individual reading lights. Family rooms are the surprise — three of them, all with mountain or city views, and they're priced not far above the dorms. Bathrooms are shared but on the same floor as your room, with the kind of water pressure that's rare in Old Town buildings of this age.
The rooftop terrace is small but well-used. South-facing, it catches the late-afternoon sun and looks out over a forest of minarets and red-tiled roofs to the wooded slopes of Trebević. BBQ facilities are set up there from May through September. The on-site bar runs a happy hour at 19:00 most evenings, and the front desk operates as a tour-booking concierge for Tunnel of Hope, Times of Misfortune and Mostar day trips.
Who it's for: first-timers who want to be in the Old Town heart, short-stay travelers maximising 2 nights, families who'd rather have a private room than a dorm. Who it's not for: light sleepers without earplugs, or guests after a party-hostel atmosphere — the chillout in the name is real.
