§ 01 — Summary

SF Hostel sits on Mainzer Landstraße 341 in the Gallus quarter, west of Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. 9.0 rating across 5 reviews — a small sample but unanimously positive across solo travellers in 2025–2026. The most fully-equipped shared kitchen in our Frankfurt list (stovetop, oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge), tram stop directly across the street, and the cheapest beds in central Frankfurt at this rating level.

§ 02 — The full story

SF Hostel occupies a residential building on Mainzer Landstraße in Frankfurt's Gallus quarter — a working-class neighbourhood west of Hauptbahnhof that's been quietly gentrifying since the European Central Bank built its tower across the river in 2014. The building isn't flashy: small footprint, basic signage, the kind of property you'd walk past unless you knew it was there.

The defining feature is the shared kitchen. Most German hostels offer a kettle and a microwave; SF Hostel has a full setup — stovetop, oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, kitchenware, dining table, even an outdoor dining area for warm evenings. For travellers planning to cook (week-long stays, FRA layovers between trips, anyone tired of bratwurst), this is the most useful kitchen in our Frankfurt list. Edeka and Aldi supermarkets are both within 4 minutes' walk on Mainzer Landstraße.

The rest of the property is bare-bones: a shared lounge with TV, free WiFi, washing machine, dryer, lift to upper floors, smoke-free building. Reception isn't 24/7 — check in during posted hours, after-hours via code. There's no on-site bar, no organized events, no breakfast included. The 5 reviews to date all flag the same things: clean, quiet, friendly staff, great location for the tram, and a couple of mentions of late-night street noise.

Location: Mainzer Landstraße is the main east-west arterial through Gallus. The tram stop directly across the street (Tram 11 or 21) goes to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in 6 minutes for €3.65. From Hauptbahnhof, the S8/S9 reaches FRA airport in 11 more minutes — total door-to-airport about 25 minutes, comparable to Five Elements. Walking distance: the Trianon tower (one of Frankfurt's tallest), the Hauptbahnhof itself (25 min walk), and the eastern edge of Bockenheim. The neighbourhood is residential-quiet at night, with a heavy Turkish-German population and good cheap eats on the side streets (try the kebab at Mainzer Landstraße / Hellerhofstraße corner).

Who this is for: budget-first travellers who plan to cook (the kitchen is the entire point), solo travellers who want a quiet bed without paying Innenstadt rates, FRA airport short-stays who want a calm tram-and-S-Bahn route to the airport, longer-term travellers who'd benefit from the kitchen and washing machine. Not for: travellers wanting central nightlife (Bahnhofsviertel is 25 minutes' walk, the Innenstadt is one tram stop further), social-scene seekers (this is a quiet, low-key property), travellers expecting daily reception (it isn't 24/7).

§ 06 — What travelers say
Netherlands9.0

Very conveniently located. You can take a tram from Frankfurt central and it stops just across the street. It was very quiet during my stay. Wi-Fi worked well. Staff put me in a twin room instead of the 4-bed dorm at no extra cost because it was available.

Staff was really friendly. Only drawback was some noise from passers-by at night.
