Topcity Hostel & Suites
Lagos's only central hostel with a rooftop pool: 8.8 from 730 reviews, year-round outdoor pool, in-house bar crawl and walking tours.
Topcity Hostel & Suites is the rooftop-pool flagship of central Lagos (8.8 from 730 stays), set on Rua Mendonça Pessanha two blocks west of Praça Gil Eanes. Adults-only, with a year-round outdoor swimming pool on the roof, sun terrace, in-house bar crawl, walking and bike tours, and private bathrooms in every room.
Topcity Hostel & Suites sits on Rua Mendonça Pessanha, a quiet inner street two blocks west of Praça Gil Eanes inside the old town walls. The marina footbridge is six minutes east, the bus station nine, and the Praia da Batata is eight minutes south through the historic centre. The Rua Cândido dos Reis party strip and the bar crawl bars are five minutes north.
This is the only central Lagos hostel with a year-round outdoor swimming pool — built into the rooftop sun terrace, with loungers, a small bar service in summer, and BBQ facilities. The pool is tiny (8m, more dipping than swimming) but it's still the differentiator that makes Topcity book up first when temperatures hit 30°C+. Rooms are upgraded compared to most hostels in town: every room has its own private bathroom (with walk-in shower and hairdryer), air conditioning, balcony, hypoallergenic bedding and a tea/coffee maker.
The operation runs more like an 'aparthostel' than a backpacker dorm: the ground floor has a shared kitchen, an elevator (rare in old-town Lagos), full-day security, daily housekeeping, and a tour desk that books walking tours, bike tours and bar crawls. The in-house bar crawl runs alongside Orange3's (Wednesday-Saturday, €15 with three drinks) and the walking tour is free with a tip.
The right pick for travellers who want a proper rooftop pool and private bathrooms but still the social scene of a hostel — couples, friend groups in private twins, and 25-35 solos who want some upgrade comfort. The trade-off is the smallest dorms in town and a higher base price than Boutique Taghostel or Olive (€32 vs €28). Not the right pick for under-25 backpackers on a strict budget — Pousada de Juventude or Orange3 are cheaper for similar bar crawl access.

“Pool on the roof made it for me in August. Private en-suite in a dorm at €28 is great value and rare for Lagos. Bar crawl was social but the dorm was quiet by 03:00 by rule.”
“Suite with the sea-view balcony was worth the upgrade. Free walking tour was genuinely informative — covered the slave market memorial which most tours skip.”
“Pool was small but worked for a dip after the beach. Kitchen too crowded 19:00-21:00, ate out instead. Private bathroom was the difference vs other hostels.”
