§ 01 — Summary

Transylvania Guest House sits on the western fringe of Brașov's Old Town — 12 min walk to Piața Sfatului, with a Carpathian-mountain view from the front rooms that the central hostels can't match. 8.2 over 377 Booking reviews, dorms and private rooms from €21. The pick if you want air conditioning, mountain views and a 5-min cheaper price than Old Town centre.

§ 02 — The full story

Transylvania Guest House occupies a Saxon villa on Strada Pajiștei 2, on the western fringe of Brașov's Old Town. From the door it's a 12-minute walk to Piața Sfatului via Bulevardul Eroilor — slower than the central hostels by about 8 minutes, but the trade-off comes with a real Carpathian view from the front-facing rooms. You can see the Tâmpa massif and, on clear mornings, the Postăvarul peaks behind it.

The hostel is more guest-house than backpacker hostel — the name reflects the model. It sleeps roughly 22 across one 8-bed mixed dorm, two 4-bed dorms and four private doubles. Rooms are spacious by Brașov hostel standards (the building is a former family villa), have air conditioning in every room, and bathrooms are shared per floor (3 bathrooms for the building). The shared kitchen is a real one with hob, oven, fridge, and a long communal table where the day-trip planning happens.

The location is the honest trade-off. You're 12 minutes from Piața Sfatului — fine on a sunny afternoon, longer-feeling on a rainy November night. In exchange you get the cheapest private double in Brașov (€45 vs €48-55 elsewhere), proper air conditioning in every room, and the Carpathian view that the central hostels physically can't have.

Reviewer consensus (377 reviews, 8.2 average): the mountain view, the spaciousness and the air conditioning are the most-mentioned positives. Common notes: 12 minutes from Piața Sfatului is real distance for travellers expecting Old Town walkability, and the building shows its age in places (creaky floorboards, hot water takes a minute to come through).

It is very close to the centre of the city and has some great restaurants close to it.

A pleasant surprise — accommodation worth discovering. The room was spotless, the bed comfy, and everything spotlessly clean.
