Bern Youth Hostel sits on Weihergasse 4, a quiet residential lane that runs directly behind the Swiss Federal Parliament (Bundeshaus). The location is the best of both worlds — Bundesplatz with its summer fountain show is 7 minutes on foot, the Aare river path and the Marzili public baths are 5 minutes downhill, and the Old Town's cobblestone arcades start 8 minutes away across the Monbijou bridge. The whole property was reopened in April 2018 after extensive refurbishment, so the rooms, bathrooms and common areas are notably more modern than the historic Old Town options.

The hostel sleeps about 180 across 4-, 6- and 8-bed mixed dorms, twin and family rooms with shared or private bathrooms, and a handful of single rooms — making it the largest hostel in Bern and the only one that reliably has dorm beds available the day of arrival in summer. Free Wi-Fi covers the building. The garden — a real one, with grass, terrace seating and outdoor chess and morris game boards — is the social heart in summer; in winter it shifts indoors to the music box, common-area TV, table tennis and tabletop football.

A varied buffet breakfast is served every morning (included on most rates, CHF 14 if not). Lunch and dinner buffets are available on request — useful if you've spent the day hiking the Gurten or Bantiger and don't want to cook. The Marzili public swimming pool is a 5-minute walk and the Oktogon hammam-and-spa is directly across the street, the only Bern hostel with a hammam at the door.

Reception is open from 7 am to midnight; the Bern Ticket transit pass is handed out at check-in (free trams, buses, S-Bahn and Gurten funicular for the entire stay, saving CHF 4.60 per ride). Different policies and additional supplements may apply for groups of 10+ — book the group form on the hostel website rather than the standard booking flow.
