§ 01 — Summary

Vagabonds is the social hostel of Belfast — adults-only, on University Road in Queen's Quarter, with parquet floors, walk-in showers, a games room, in-house bar crawls, walking tours, evening entertainment and a continental breakfast included. Couples rate it 9.0 for two-person trips. The duty manager Bob (also called Bobby) shows up by name in roughly half the five-star reviews.

§ 02 — The full story

Vagabonds is the social-and-stylish counterpart to its budget neighbour on Botanic Avenue. Address: 9 University Road, BT7 1NA, between the Linen Quarter and Botanic Gardens — the part of Queen's Quarter where the student shops give way to the tree-lined approach to Queen's University. Five minutes' walk to Botanic train station, ten to the Belfast Empire Music Hall, twelve to City Hall.

It's marketed as a 5-star adults-only hostel and the design backs that claim: parquet floors instead of carpet, walk-in showers instead of plastic shower stalls, ground-floor units with seating areas, hardwood throughout. The hostel takes children-free seriously — under-18s aren't admitted. That pulls in an older backpacker crowd: late-twenties solo travelers, adults-only group trips, and the Causeway Coast day-trip set.

The social programming is what separates Vagabonds from the rest of Belfast's accommodation. The reception runs in-house walking tours, evening entertainment, organised bar crawls, and hiking trips into the Mournes. There's a games room, a shared lounge, a continental breakfast included in the rate, a shared kitchen for self-caterers, and bicycle parking at the front. The bar crawl typically meets in the lounge and walks to the Cathedral Quarter — Duke of York, Dirty Onion, the Sunflower Pub.

Rooms are dorms (4-bed, 6-bed, 8-bed mixed) and private singles/twins. Parquet underfoot, walk-in shower in the shared bathroom, linens included in the rate, towels at extra fee unless your booking already includes them. The Mexican woman at reception (frequently mentioned in reviews) and Bob/Bobby the duty manager carry the staff praise; they're the reason returning solo travelers say it "feels like home."

§ 06 — What travelers say
India10.0

Cleanliness, location, staff and value for money — Vagabonds delivers on all four. Easily the best hostel I stayed at on the UK leg.

I like the service from almost all the staff. Bob, for example, used his super knowledge to solve my problem even though he was busy. Short on explanation and operation, made me feel better.

The cleanliness and service are top notch. The Mexican lady at reception was so nice and the manager as well. Very comfortable and smooth stay.
