§ 01 — Summary

Hostel attached to a bowling alley and bar on Park Row, smack in the middle of the Old City student quarter. Cheapest central beds in Bristol with a built-in party downstairs, ten lanes of bowling, and a bar that runs late on weekends.

§ 02 — The full story

Rock n Bowl sits above a ten-lane bowling alley on Park Row, a five-minute walk from College Green and the Old City. The premise is exactly what it sounds like: cheap dorms upstairs, bowling and a bar downstairs, and the most affordable central bunk in Bristol if you're willing to accept that the music carries up through the floor on a Saturday night.

This is a budget hostel that punches above its weight on location. You're 6 minutes' walk from the Hippodrome, 8 from King Street, 12 from the harbour, and 15 from Stokes Croft. The Park Row stretch itself is dotted with student bars (the Park Street Friday-night spillover is real), so you don't need to wander far for a drink.

The rooms are basic — bunks, lockers, two power sockets per bed (a small detail that's surprisingly rare in cheap hostels) — but they're clean and the staff have been doing this long enough that the check-in is fast and friendly. There's a small shared kitchen for breakfast prep, a common area, and direct stairs down to the bowling alley if you want to embrace the gimmick.

The vibe is younger and rowdier than YHA Bristol, less curated than The Bristol Wing, and more centrally located than The Full Moon Backpackers. If you're 22, on a £30-a-night budget, and your priority is being able to walk back from a King Street pub crawl without thinking too hard, Rock n Bowl is the answer.

Location was perfect, right in the centre of town. Exactly what I needed from a budget central stay. The staff were friendly, the bowling alley downstairs was a bonus, and the bar was reasonable.

Beds were well equipped with two power sockets per bed. The layout of beds also made it feel less cramped than the average ten-bed dorm. Showers were hot, lockers were big enough for a 60-litre pack.

Really good for what you pay. Room was clean, staff were really nice, didn't expect much for the price and was pleasantly surprised. The bowling alley made for a fun first night with people from the dorm.
