Hostel Marmota
The mountain-edge hostel in Amras, with private bathrooms in every room, a cozy common-room bar and bikes for hire
Hostel Marmota is the 8.0-rated mountain-base pick in Amras on the southeast edge of Innsbruck, closer to Schloss Ambras and the Patscherkofel cable car than to the Altstadt. Every room has a private bathroom, there's a cozy common-room bar, bike and ski rental, a terrace with Nordkette views, and the place is built around guests who want city access AND trail-head proximity. Self check-in tablet after 22:00.
Hostel Marmota is in Amras, the southeast edge of Innsbruck where the city fades into forested hillside. You're on Tummelplatzweg, a 500-meter walk from Schloss Ambras (the 16th-century Habsburg castle), a 10-minute walk from the Patscherkofel cable car approach bus, and a 25-minute bus ride from the Altstadt. Not a walk-to-the-Goldenes-Dachl location — a walk-to-the-trailhead one.
The building is a recent renovation with the Tirolean alpine-lodge aesthetic: larch wood cladding, pitched roofs, a south-facing terrace that catches the sun from mid-morning until the mountains eat it at 17:00. Rooms are simply furnished but solid — every single one has a private bathroom and toilet, including the dorms. One towel per guest, no TV in the rooms (deliberate — it's a mountain escape). Parquet floors, double-glazed windows, thick insulation.
The common room is the social heart, and it has a bar. Not a nightclub bar — a cozy ski-lodge bar with a Wine/Champagne list, a coffee machine by day, craft beer in the evening. There's a long communal table, board games, and the kind of quiet evening scene where hikers and skiers actually trade tips for tomorrow's route. Coffee house on site. Free luggage storage. Ski and snowboard storage, bike rental, secure bike room.
Reception 07:00–11:00 and 14:00–22:00; after 22:00 there's a self check-in tablet at the main entrance. Parking (both street and a paid private lot next door). The airport is 3 mi / 15 min by taxi. Bus 4 from the stop on Philippine-Welser-Straße gets you to the Hauptbahnhof in 20 min and the Altstadt in 25 min; last bus around 23:00.

“If I could give 100 out of 10, I would. The best hostel I've ever stayed in. The private bathroom in the dorm was a huge plus, the common room bar was cosy, and the staff made us feel at home.”
“I really liked everything. The parking was very convenient and the room was easy to access with ski gear — the ground-floor room next to the ski storage saved us so much time.”
“My room was on the ground floor, which was easy to access with ski gear. Clean, quiet, good value. The terrace is a highlight on sunny afternoons.”
