§ 01 — Summary

Tchaikovsky Hostel (T-Hostel) is the 8.6-rated Palace-adjacent pick with a terrace, rooms with balconies, and a kitchenette — seven minutes on foot from Diocletian's Palace and right next to Split's City Theatre. The 9.5 staff score across 398 reviews is the top in the city.

§ 02 — The full story

Tchaikovsky (T-Hostel) is on ulica Petra Ilica Čajkovskog, a narrow quieter street running between the City Theatre and the Palace's north wall. Seven minutes on foot and you are at the Peristyle in the Palace heart; ten minutes west and you are at the Marjan park trailhead; twelve minutes downhill and you are at the ferry port and main bus station. The 9.5 staff score — highest in Split — is the hostel's defining feature, and the 398-review base holds consistent 8.5 cleanliness and 8.5 comfort.

Rooms are a mix: balcony rooms facing the quieter courtyard, balcony rooms with a partial City-Theatre glimpse, and a handful of interior-facing dorms. Most rooms have a small kitchenette (kettle, fridge, toaster) in addition to the main shared kitchen on the ground floor. The hostel runs a terrace where most of the evening social scene happens — not a full in-house bar, but a byo-and-socialise space with string lights and hostel-provided olives and cheese.

What T-Hostel does best is the middle-band social feel. It's not the Booze & Snooze volume party, not the Gravitas small-property boutique; it's the hostel where you meet three travellers on the terrace who become genuine travel friends by the end of the night. The bar-crawl culture runs through Charlie's five minutes south, but most T-Hostel guests skip it and hang on the terrace instead.

§ 03 — Why we love it
  • 019.5 staff score — Split's highest, and the reason T-Hostel has 398 reviews at 8.6 instead of 8.3: the owner-manager culture lifts everything
  • 02Balcony rooms with small kitchenettes — a rare Split hostel amenity that lets you do breakfast without joining the main kitchen queue
  • 03Shared terrace with string lights and hostel-provided olives and cheese — the evening social format that scales to 10–15 guests
  • 04Seven minutes to Diocletian's Palace and right beside the City Theatre — cultural-centre adjacency without the Palace-core crowd noise

This hostel is really great. The beds are really comfortable and have big curtains for privacy. The rooms are super spacious for a hostel. The terrace evenings felt like hanging out in a friend's backyard.

The staff was really wholesome and welcoming. The hostel also has a really good location close to the Old Town square but also a quieter street. They booked our airport shuttle and a Hvar day trip in one go.

The staff was very helpful. The cleaning lady was fun to talk to and recommended some syrups for my cough — helped me get over a cold by night two. The balcony room made the whole stay feel like a mini apartment.
