Main Square Hostel at Radićeva 6 is the most central hostel address in Zagreb — 20 meters off Ban Jelačić Square, at the foot of Radićeva lane that climbs up to the Uspinjača funicular and the Upper Town. You step out of the hostel door and Ban Jelačić is the first thing you see; Tkalčićeva is a 90-second walk around the corner, Dolac market is 2 minutes, the funicular is 3 minutes up Radićeva.

The building is a 19th-century commercial block converted to 90 beds over four floors. The trademark of Main Square is the cylinder-pod private rooms — cylindrical studio pods on floor 2, each a single-occupancy capsule with a proper double bed, small desk, private bathroom, and enough standing height. They're rented as privates when the dorms are full and reviewers frequently get upgraded to them for the same price ("the best accidental upgrade in Zagreb", one review runs). Regular rooms are 4-bed to 8-bed mixed dorms and standard privates, with bunk-bed privacy curtains on every bed.

The social setup is lighter than Chillout or Bureau: a ground-floor lounge and reception desk, a shared kitchen on floor 2, and a small rooftop terrace (the city-view nook, not a bar — BYO drinks). There's no on-site bar and no nightly pub crawl, but reception partners with the Original Zagreb Pub Crawl that departs from Ban Jelačić at 9 pm Fridays and Saturdays; signup at the front desk and the €5 crawl fee is waived for Main Square guests.

Reviewers are consistent: the location is unbeatable (every single review mentions it), the cleanliness is solid, the cylinder pods are a treat when you get one. Caveats: the ground-floor dorm catches late-night square noise (expect 1 am crowd volume on weekends), the bunk ladders are metal and loud, and the single-shower booth per dorm floor queues at 8 am. It's the right hostel if you value location over social volume.
