The Dots Hostel
Zagreb's highest-rated hostel: quiet side-street, 3-min walk to Tkalčićeva
New small-format hostel on Palmotićeva, a quiet Lower Town side street three minutes from Ban Jelačić Square. Bright dorms and private rooms, shared kitchen, 24-hour reception, and noticeably cleaner than the bigger Ilica-strip hostels. The highest-rated hostel in Zagreb at 9.0 over 519 reviews.
The Dots Hostel opened in 2022 on Palmotićeva 30, a one-way residential lane in Donji Grad (Lower Town) three minutes on foot from Ban Jelačić Square and the top of Tkalčićeva. It's the smallest proper hostel in this list (around 40 beds across six rooms) which is exactly why it rates 9.0 — there's no party volume, no overcrowded kitchen, and the single receptionist actually knows your name by night two.
Rooms split between mixed dorms (4 and 6 beds, reading lights, USB sockets, under-bed lockers you lock with your own padlock), private doubles with en-suite, and female-only dorms. Every room has air conditioning, double-glazing against the (minimal) street noise, and cotton linens rather than the polyester sheets you get at the 100-bed party hostels on Ilica.
Breakfast is included and served 7 to 10 am in the ground-floor lounge — eggs, bread, cheese and ham, Nutella, filter coffee. Not gourmet but enough to skip Pod Zidom Bistro on the way out. The shared kitchen is fully equipped (stove, oven, fridge, basic spices) and the common room stays open 24/7 with a small bar serving Ožujsko (€3) and local craft beers from Garden Brewery (€4.50).
Reviewers flag two things consistently: the location is genuinely central (180 seconds to Dolac market, 4 minutes to Tkalčićeva bar strip, 8 minutes to the train station by tram 6) and the staff run informal walking tours for guests on request — the 10 am free walk to the Upper Town and the Museum of Broken Relationships is a de facto daily ritual. It's not a bar-crawl house. If you want loud, book Whole Wide World or Funk Lounge; if you want sleep and actually-warm breakfast, this is the pick.

“It was my first time staying in a hostel and I had a really good experience here. The location is amazing — very central and within walking distance of everything.”
“Very good location. The room was nice and tidy. Friendly staff. Breakfast could be a little better but still fine for an included breakfast.”
“Outstanding feeling and coziness overall. Small hostel, feels like you know everyone by the second night.”
