Hostel Temza sits on Augusta Šenoe 24, one block from the main east-west axis of Donji Grad (Lower Town). If you're arriving on the overnight train from Munich or Budapest, rolling in from Split on the night bus, or launching to Ljubljana the next morning, this is the most rational hostel address in Zagreb — a four-minute walk with a rucksack from Glavni kolodvor (the main train station) and ten minutes' walk up Praška to Ban Jelačić Square and the top of Tkalčićeva.

The building is a converted 1890s townhouse over three floors: a ground-floor reception with a small lounge, a basement shared kitchen and dining area with a little garden spilling onto a side terrace, and two floors of dorms and privates upstairs. Rooms range from 4 and 6-bed mixed dorms to private doubles and a family room with four beds. Every room has air conditioning, lockers for each bed, and double-glazed windows facing the quiet interior courtyard rather than the tram line.

There's no on-site bar and no pub crawl — this is the part of the Zagreb hostel scene that sits slightly outside the Tkalčićeva circuit. The social lives in the kitchen and garden: guests cook dinner together in the basement most evenings, the receptionist runs an informal map-marking session at 8 pm for first-nighters, and the hostel partners with the 11 am Zagreb Free Walking Tour that leaves from Ban Jelačić Square.

Reviewers flag the staff as the standout — Interrailers who've done five or six Central European hostels keep coming back because the front desk actually remembers them. The caveats that come up: the ground-floor 6-bed dorm can catch kitchen noise until 10 pm; bunks could use privacy curtains (they're flagged by multiple guests); the shower block on floor 1 serves two dorms and can queue at 8 am.
