Le Pastoral occupies an old Niçois townhouse on Rue Assalit, the street that parallels Avenue Jean Médecin on the north side of Gare Nice-Ville. The location is the trade-off of the hostel: station-adjacent (3 min to the TER platform for Monaco and Cannes) but also in the slightly gritty post-station zone. The building itself is 19th-century character.
New management took over in early 2025 and reviews since have consistently flagged the change — cleaner rooms, friendlier reception, a better kitchen. The set-up is classic French townhouse: 4- to 8-bed dorms on the upper floors, a few privates, a shared kitchen and a small terrace for smokers. Small bar area for evening drinks (not a party bar).
This is the hostel for travellers whose main filter is price and station access: Riviera day-trippers on a strict budget, groups of two or three who want private rooms under €80, backpackers who don't care about boutique. The rating sits at 7.2 — decent, not excellent. If you care about presentation, book SLO (also station-adjacent, pod dorms). If €30 is the hard ceiling, this is your spot.
