Our Honest Take

From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice

LEKKERURLAUB is what happens when someone who actually cares about hospitality runs a hostel. Kathrin's personal touch is everywhere, from the hand-decorated rooms to the genuine welcome that makes you feel like a houseguest, not a customer. The 9.3 rating with 297 reviews isn't a fluke. The Kreuzberg location on Graefestraße is arguably the best hostel location in Berlin: Ankerklause on the canal, Turkish Market, and Kreuzberg's entire food scene on your doorstep. It's not for everyone. No bar, no party, no big social program. But if you want the Berlin that Berliners actually live in, this is it.

🎯 Insider Tips

  • 1Walk to Ankerklause (3 min) for canal-side drinks at sunset. It's the most Berlin bar in Kreuzberg.
  • 2The Turkish Market on Maybachufer runs Tuesday and Friday. Get gözleme and fresh produce for the kitchen.
  • 3Rent bikes from the hostel and ride along the Landwehr Canal to Treptower Park. The Soviet war memorial there is overwhelming and free.
  • 4Ask Kathrin for dinner recommendations. She knows every restaurant on Graefestraße personally.

🔥 Why We Love It

1

9.3 rating. Kathrin's personal hospitality makes this feel like staying with a friend, not checking into a hostel.

2

Graefestraße location is peak Kreuzberg: canal bars, Turkish Market, indie restaurants, zero tourists.

3

The individually decorated rooms have actual personality. No two are alike.

4

Bicycle rental lets you explore Berlin the way locals do: flat, bikeable, and full of surprises.

5

Small size means the social vibe is intimate. You'll have real conversations, not shouted introductions over DJ sets.

📖 The Full Story

LEKKERURLAUB is not your typical hostel. It's a small, owner-run boutique operation on Graefestraße, one of the best residential streets in Kreuzberg. Kathrin runs the place personally, and it shows in every detail: individually decorated rooms, a shared kitchen where she sometimes joins guests for morning coffee, and a level of cleanliness that puts most hotels to shame.

The location is deep Kreuzberg, surrounded by the bars of Ankerklause on the canal, the Turkish Market on Maybachufer, and some of Berlin's best independent restaurants. This is the real Berlin that tourists in Mitte never see. Graefestraße itself is leafy and calm, lined with cafés and small shops.

The hostel has garden and city views, a well-equipped kitchen, bicycle rental, and temporary art galleries that rotate regularly. Board games and a cozy common area create a more intimate social experience. You'll meet people here, but in small groups over coffee, not in a 200-person bar crawl.

With a 9.3 rating, LEKKERURLAUB is the highest-rated hostel in Berlin. The trade-off is size: it's small, it books out fast, and there's no on-site bar or nightly events. But what it lacks in scale, it makes up in soul.
