Five Reasons sits on Frauentormauer, a quiet street tucked against the southern stretch of the medieval city wall, two minutes' walk from the Königstor gate and five from the Hauptbahnhof. The location is the headline: pull a rolling bag from the train and you are inside the Altstadt before the wheels have stopped clicking, with the Hauptmarkt and the Lebkuchen stalls a flat ten minutes north.

The building was newly renovated when it reopened, and it shows: dorms have proper privacy curtains around each bunk (a feature reviewers single out), individual reading lights, and lockers under every bed. The shared kitchen is a real one — full hob, oven, fridges that get used — and the ground-floor café-bar serves a paid breakfast (around €9, decent rather than great) plus all-day coffee and Franconian beer in the evening.

It is not a party hostel. The vibe is closer to a well-run modern flashpacker base: solo travelers and couples in their twenties and thirties, occasional families using the private rooms, a steady hum in the lounge but lights-out is real. If you want a bar-crawl hostel, look elsewhere; if you want a clean bed, central as it gets, with strangers who'll happily share a Rotbier downstairs, this is the move.

The roof terrace is the surprise — a small but legitimate outdoor deck with city-wall views, open in summer, where guests bring their own bottle from the kitchen. It does not advertise itself; ask at reception.
