aparto Florence Manifattura
9.1-rated modern dorms inside Florence's converted tobacco factory — private baths, soundproofing, work desks
9.1-rated modern hostel inside the Manifattura Tabacchi — Florence's converted 1932 tobacco factory turned creative district in Novoli. Private-bathroom dorms, proper work desks, soundproofed walls, and a tram straight to the centre in 15 minutes. Built for travelers who want a clean bed and a quiet room more than a hostel bar.
Aparto Florence Manifattura occupies a wing of the Manifattura Tabacchi, the 1932 Florentine state tobacco factory that stopped producing in 2001 and reopened this decade as a mixed-use district of student housing, galleries, cafes, and coworking space. The complex is a 15-minute T2 tram ride from Santa Maria Novella station and about 25 minutes on foot from the Duomo.
Rooms are built to aparto's student-residence standard, which is a good thing: proper beds (full-width, not camp-cot bunks), lockable wardrobes, desks with reading lights, and en-suite private bathrooms in every dorm. Walls are soundproofed. Linens are provided, towels too. Air conditioning in every room.
Downstairs is a sizeable common area that fills with a mix of long-term student residents and shorter-stay dorm bookers. There's space to take a video call without a roommate in the background, which is uncommon in Florence hostels at this price. A bar-caffé and supermarket sit inside the Manifattura compound itself.
The trade-off is location. Novoli is a residential district, not the historic centre — you're on the tram for everything, and the last T2 runs around 00:30. If your Florence plan is walking from your bed to Santa Croce for aperitivo, pick a hostel in the centre. If your plan involves any actual sleep, real working hours, or a budget that doesn't tolerate centre-of-Florence premiums, aparto earns its 9.1.
