Hostel Archi Rossi is the old-school family-run hostel Florence has kept running while every other property in the city ran a 'boutique hostel' playbook. The frescoed courtyard is the genuine article, not a paint job, and breakfast included plus a 250-metre walk to SMN station is the best arrival-day package in Florence. You won't make friends at the hostel bar (there isn't one), and the 02:00 curfew will rule it out if you plan to catch the last DJ at YellowSquare or Plus. Pick Archi Rossi if you want to arrive tired, sleep well, and walk to the Duomo before breakfast.

- 1Pay the 4-EUR upgrade to a 4-bed en-suite dorm from the 8-bed shared. The smaller room is a night-and-day sleep difference and the private bathroom eliminates the 7:30am corridor queue.
- 2The 02:00 curfew is real and staff don't negotiate. Plan your last bus from Santo Spirito or Santa Croce to leave by 01:30 or you're sleeping somewhere else. The upside is no one rolls into your dorm at 03:00.

📖 The Full Story
Hostel Archi Rossi has been on Via Faenza since the 1990s and feels it in the best way — family-run, old-school rules (there's still a curfew at 02:00), and a courtyard with 19th-century frescoed walls and arched Rossi-red ceilings that photographs better than most boutique hotels in the centre. The building is a former palazzo. The hostel name comes from those red arches in the entrance.
Dorms are simple: bunks, lockers at the foot of each bed, linens provided. Most rooms have private bathrooms; the 6 and 8-bed dorms share a bathroom on the corridor. Air conditioning in every room, which matters in July. Walls are old-palazzo thick so sleep is actually quiet.
Breakfast is included in every rate and runs 07:00-10:00 in the courtyard or vaulted dining room. It's not a party hostel — there's a sun-deck terrace upstairs for evening beers but no DJ, no events calendar, no free-pasta night. If you want the hostel bar social scene, this is not it.
What Archi Rossi does get you is a 250-metre walk from the train station (literal minutes, arrival-with-heavy-pack friendly) and a 10-minute walk to the Duomo through the San Lorenzo market. If you're doing Florence as part of a rail loop through Tuscany and want a base that's two minutes from your next train, Archi Rossi is built for it.
