Genoa Hostels with Social Events

Genoa is a port city that turns nightlife into geography — Piazza delle Erbe and the Maddalena alleys form one of Italy's densest bar circuits, and locals start the drinking ritual at 19h with a Negroni and a buffet. Two Genoa hostels run the kind of social-events programme that plugs you straight into this rhythm: scheduled walking tours, evening pub crawls through the caruggi, weekly Cinque Terre group day-trips, and an in-house aperitivo or buffet that gets the night moving before you leave the lobby.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I arrived on a Tuesday rolling off the Cinque Terre train at Principe with no plan. Did the morning walking tour from the Ostello Bello lobby (€0, ended at the Acquario), met three other solo travelers on it, joined the included buffet aperitivo at 19h, and by 22h was on the Friday Maddalena pub crawl with a Belgian, two Australians and a Spanish couple. Slept until noon, did the Cinque Terre group day-trip on Wednesday, repeated the cycle. Without the scheduled events, all of that would have been me eating focaccia alone.

OStellin Genova Hostel

A small, friendly hostel hidden in the medieval caruggi maze of the Maddalena district, three minutes' walk from Piazza delle Erbe and the heart of Genoa's bar circuit. Family-run with a tight communal kitchen and a free morning focaccia run.

  • Three-minute walk to Piazza delle Erbe, the densest bar district in Genoa
  • Free morning walking tour from reception — staff actually live in the caruggi
  • Small enough (35 beds) that you know everyone by night two
  • Focaccia-and-cornetto breakfast included, not the cereal buffet
Ostello Bello Genova

8.71,240 reviews32/night

Ostello Bello Genova

The Genoa outpost of Italy's best-known social-hostel chain, on Via Balbi a five-minute walk from Principe station. Big property by Genoa standards (around 90 beds), with a rooftop terrace bar, included buffet aperitivo every evening, and the daily walking-tour-and-pub-crawl programme the chain is known for.

  • Rooftop terrace bar with views over the Strade Nuove UNESCO district
  • Free 19h buffet aperitivo every evening included in the bed price
  • Daily 10h30 walking tour from the lobby plus weekly Cinque Terre group day-trip
  • Five-minute walk to Principe station for Cinque Terre and Milan trains

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Social Events in Genoa

Tip Nº 01

The Friday Maddalena pub crawl ends at Vico Lavagna around 1am. Walk back via Via Garibaldi (UNESCO Strade Nuove, well-lit) rather than the darker caruggi behind Piazza delle Erbe.

Tip Nº 02

Wednesday Cinque Terre group day-trip from Ostello Bello sells out by Tuesday afternoon. Book it on arrival morning, not the day before.

Tip Nº 03

The free 19h buffet aperitivo at Ostello Bello peaks at 19h00 sharp — queue at 18h55 to get the focaccia tray before it disappears.

Tip Nº 04

OStellin's morning walking tour leaves at 10h30 from reception. Skip breakfast there (it's basic) and grab focaccia at Antica Sciamadda two alleys away first.

Tip Nº 05

Both hostels route you to local aperitivo bars on the Macelli di Soziglia for an alternative to the chain pub crawls — Bar Cabreuva and Trovamici are the picks.
