Hostel of the Sun
8.6-rated waterfront hostel three minutes from the Capri ferry — happy-hour bar, free walking tours, family vibe
8.6-rated long-running hostel three minutes from the Beverello ferry terminal — the perfect base for day trips to Capri, Procida and Ischia. Family-run for over 20 years, with a happy-hour bar, free pasta night, free walking tours of Spaccanapoli, and a games room with pool table. The lift starts at the seventh floor where reception sits.
Hostel of the Sun has been on the seventh floor of a residential block on Via Melisurgo since the early 2000s, three minutes from the Molo Beverello terminal where every Capri, Procida and Ischia hydrofoil leaves. You enter the building, take the small lift to the seventh floor, and step into reception — a warmly lit common space that doubles as the bar, the breakfast room, and the meeting point for the daily walking tour.
Dorms run four to six beds with reading lights, lockers, air conditioning, and shared bathrooms a few steps down the corridor. A handful of private rooms with en-suite are available too. The building's lift is small but works, and the seventh-floor common area opens onto a balcony with bay views you would not expect from a budget hostel.
The games room is a real one — pool table, table football, board games, a Nintendo Wii — and the bar runs a happy hour every evening with €3 spritz that draws guests out of their dorms. Free pasta night happens once a week (usually Tuesday), and free walking tours of the Centro Storico depart from reception three times a week. Andrea, Davide and the rest of the long-tenured staff are repeatedly named in reviews — a sign the team has been stable for years.
The trade-offs: the bathrooms are shared and basic, the lift is small enough that two backpacks count as full capacity, and the surrounding port area can feel uninspiring after dark. None of those break the deal at this price, in this location, with this atmosphere.
