Tric Trac Hostel

Tric Trac Hostel occupies an upper-floor slice of a restored building on Piazza Santa Maria la Nova in the Centro Storico, five minutes on foot from the Plebiscito square and eight from the Spaccanapoli pizza row. The approach is a real UNESCO-setting one: you walk through a 14th-century church square, ring up to the entry, and the lift (small but working) takes you to the hostel floors.

Rooms are where Tric Trac earns its 9.1. Dorms have private bathrooms inside the dorm room — which is rare at this price and this location. Custom-built bunks with curtains, reading lights, socket at bed, bidet-included private bathroom, air conditioning, hardwood or parquet floors, soundproofing you can actually feel. Hypoallergenic options available. Family rooms and private doubles all have en-suite.

The common spaces sit on a sun-deck terrace — outdoor dining area, outdoor furniture for afternoon reading, a small bar with happy hour, a shared kitchen stocked for guest use, and karaoke nights most weeks (the signature Tric Trac evening). Themed dinners run on a rotating schedule. Breakfast is included — a simple but real continental set. The hostel organises walking tours, cooking classes and Capri day trips through reception.

The trade-offs: the small lift means luggage on the stairs for groups of two or more, and the terrace fills fast on sunny afternoons — if you want garden-sized space, HOPESTEL's courtyard is larger. But as a design-plus-team hostel in the Centro Storico with private-bathroom dorms under €30, Tric Trac is the one that gets the details right.
