Kaunas Hostels with Bike Rental

Kaunas has a fledgling but real bike-lane network along the Nemunas embankment, the kind that turns a half-day cycle to the Pažaislis monastery into a paved, signposted, no-traffic-stress experience. The two hostels with in-house bike rental save you the metro/Bolt run to a rental shop and put a helmet, lock, and basic-but-rideable city bike at reception for €8-10 a day. We've picked them not because they're the only ones, but because the bikes are actually maintained and the hostel staff know the routes worth riding.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I rented a bike from Easy Kaunas on the second morning and ended up doing the Pažaislis ride three times in a five-day stay. The route is genuinely beautiful — south-bank Nemunas, no traffic, and the monastery itself is empty most weekday mornings. Each trip cost me €8 plus €4 in coffee at the monastery café. I never used a bus or Bolt the whole time. By day four, the hostel staff at Easy Kaunas were giving me increasingly detailed riffs on the route variations (the loop through the Pažaislis village adds 4 km but is worth it).

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Bike Rental in Kaunas

Tip Nº 01

Pažaislis Monastery is closed Mondays. If you're doing the ride, plan it for any other day or you'll cycle 10 km to a locked gate.

Tip Nº 02

The Nemunas riverside path has zero shade in summer — bring water and don't ride midday in July-August. Best windows: 8:00-11:00 or 17:00-20:00.

Tip Nº 03

Bike helmets are not legally mandatory in Lithuania for adults but both hostels include them with rentals. Wear one — the Naujamiestis tram-track crossings are the genuine hazard.

Tip Nº 04

The Kaunas Lagoon (the reservoir at the end of the Pažaislis route) has a few sandy beach spots in summer where you can swim. Bring a towel if the weather's right; the locals do it.

Tip Nº 05

If you're arriving by train with a bike of your own, Lithuanian Rail allows bikes on most regional trains for €1-2. The Vilnius–Kaunas express has limited bike spots; book ahead in summer.
