Easy Kaunas is the highest-rated hostel in our viable list (8.9), perched at Laisvės alėja 10 — the top end of the avenue, near St. Michael the Archangel's Church and the Soboras roundabout. The fit-out is the headline: modern beds, modern bathrooms, modern kitchen — the rare Baltic budget hostel that doesn't look like 2008.
The building is on the upper floors above the Laisvės cafe row, two minutes from the Soboras (the green-domed neo-Byzantine church that anchors the top of the avenue). Reception runs roughly 8:00 to 22:00 with after-hours self-check-in via keypad — emails get sent the day of arrival.
The rooms are the reason for the 8.9 rating. Mixed dorms in 4-, 6-, and 10-bed configurations, all with bunk beds that have actual reading lights, USB charging, individual curtains, and under-bunk lockers wide enough for a 65-litre pack. The 6-bed is the sweet spot. Privates are twins and doubles with the same kit, sharing the floor's bathroom.
Kitchen is well-equipped (full-size fridge, two hobs, oven, microwave, decent cookware, free tea and coffee). The lounge wraps the kitchen with seating, a wall-mounted TV, and a small library of city guides. Bike hire (€8/day, helmet included) is the standout extra — Kaunas has a fledgling bike-lane network along the Nemunas embankment that makes a half-day cycle to Pažaislis Monastery genuinely doable.
Location: top of Laisvės = closest hostel to the Christ's Resurrection Basilica funicular (six minutes), the modernist quarter (you're in it), and the riverside cycle path (eight minutes). Old Town is a fifteen-minute walk along the avenue.
Who this is for: solo backpackers wanting the modern fit-out at hostel prices, couples on the modernist-walk itinerary, cyclists looking to ride out to Pažaislis. Not for late-night party crowds — quiet hours are enforced — and not for travellers wanting the Old Town cobbles outside the door.
