Historia Hostel is the high-volume veteran of the Skopje scene — 802 reviews and counting, three minutes south of Macedonia Square in a converted residential block. The 8.3 rating is solid mid-tier: rooms are basic but clean, the kitchen works, and the small rooftop deck (4 wooden tables, string lights, a no-frills bar that opens at 19:00) earns the 'rooftop hostel' tagline without overpromising.

The building has the typical Skopje hostel layout — narrow stairwell, dorms across two upper floors, common room and kitchen on the ground floor, rooftop on top. Dorms are 4, 6, and 8 beds, basic but functional, with bunk curtains in the newer dorms and standard bunks in the older ones. Privates are converted twin rooms with the original parquet floors and shared hallway bathrooms.

Location is the main selling point. Three minutes to Macedonia Square, six minutes to the Stone Bridge, ten minutes to the Old Bazaar, eleven minutes to the bus station — every Skopje sight is on foot. The Macedonia Street bar crawl walks past the door, and the staff has the schedule pinned to the corkboard.

This is not a boutique experience. The bathrooms feel their age, the AC units are noisy, and the WiFi slows after 20:00. What you get for 14 EUR is a clean dorm in the center of Skopje with a rooftop you can drink on, in a building that has been doing this consistently for ten years.
