Hostel Plac Kolegiacki
The bar-crawl hostel of Poznań — Plac Kolegiacki entrance, terrace views, cocktails downstairs, live music
Hostel Plac Kolegiacki occupies a building on Plac Kolegiacki, the small square three minutes south of Stary Rynek, with the entrance tucked alongside a smarter hotel — first-time arrivals walk past it twice. Carpeted private rooms with their own bathrooms, a terrace with city views, on-site bar with cocktails, organised bar crawls, and live music nights. Genuinely the most active social programme of any Poznań hostel.
Hostel Plac Kolegiacki is the hostel for travelers who want their evenings on rails. The building shares an entrance with a 4-star hotel — first-timers always walk past it. Inside it's a different operation: hostel-priced rooms, a downstairs cocktail bar, a terrace with city views, organised bar crawls most nights, and live music or DJs at least twice a week. If you want the bar-crawl meet-other-people hostel of Poznań, this is the one (Moon Hostel runs a close second).
Rooms are private with their own bathrooms — there are no big mixed dorms here, the format is more like a hostel-priced micro-hotel. Carpeted floors, refrigerator, electric kettle, walk-in shower, towels and linens included (though some configurations charge a small fee for towels). City-view rooms face Plac Kolegiacki and St. Stanislaus the Bishop Church. The shared kitchen is properly equipped — cooker, oil, cutlery, fridge — and reviews keep mentioning that the heating actually works (which is not a given in older Poznań buildings).
The on-site cocktail bar is what differentiates this place. Open to non-guests, it's a bar crawl pre-game spot, and the staff doubles as the crawl guides. ~50-70 PLN per crawl, 4-5 stops, free shot per stop, runs Wed-Sat. Live music nights swing between acoustic and electronic; check the chalkboard at reception. The terrace has city views (read: roof-line views — it's not Brooklyn rooftop, but it works in summer).
The 8.4 rating drops half a star for two reasons: the entrance confusion (genuinely awkward, expect to walk past) and the variable bartender shifts (some nights the cocktail menu is full, some nights it's beer-only). For pure backpacker energy at a Stare Miasto address, this is the best Poznań offers.
- 01Bar crawls run most nights with hostel staff as guides — easiest way to see Poznań's nightlife circuit without DIY-ing it.
- 02On-site cocktail bar means your night starts before you leave the building. It's also open to non-guests, which keeps the vibe mixed.
- 03Live music or DJ nights twice a week — the only Poznań hostel running a real music programme.
- 04Terrace with city views (yes, it's roof-line, not Brooklyn — works in summer).
- 05Plac Kolegiacki is genuinely walkable to everything: Rynek 3 min, Royal Castle 8 min, Cathedral Island 18 min.
- On-site bar + cocktail menu
- Bar crawls organised most nights
- Live music + DJ performance nights
- Terrace with city views
“Amazing location, with such a price it's even better. Comfy beds, clean bathroom. Cooker, oil and cutlery to cook with. Fridge, very good heating. The receptionist helped me greatly when I forgot my charger.”
“Special thanks to the receptionist guy — I was honestly about to have my worst hostel experience, but he completely saved my night and turned it into one of my best hostel stays. Huge appreciation for the kindness, and thanks to Wiki for being so helpful too.”
“Very close to the Old Market Place, the city centre. The entrance was easy to find once you know to look for the smarter hotel next door. Staff was very friendly. Walked to the majority of attractions, public transport and main shops nearby.”
