Liverpool Hostels with a Bar

Four of our five rated-7 Liverpool hostels have a bar of some kind on the property — but only one (YHA Albert Dock) has a proper licensed bar with craft beer at pub prices. The Pod, Malacuna Mount Pleasant, and International Inn run smaller drinks-menu setups. Royal Chambers has none. The question isn't 'is there a bar' but 'is the bar good enough to anchor your night without trekking back into Concert Square?' For YHA Albert Dock, yes; for the others, it's a starter but not the destination.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I made a habit at YHA Albert Dock of starting every evening at the bar with a single pint, joining whatever conversation happened to be running, then walking out to wherever the conversation pointed. Three nights, three different routes: night one was the Cavern Club with two Australians; night two was the Philharmonic Dining Rooms with a UK rail-pass solo who'd been on it for ten days; night three was a quieter Bold Street ramble with a Spanish couple. The bar at YHA was always the start point, never the destination. That's the right pattern for a Liverpool hostel bar.

§ 03 — Tips

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Bar in Liverpool

Tip Nº 01

YHA Albert Dock's bar is the only one in our list with a proper draught range. Black Lodge IPA, Cain's Liverpool Bitter, Madri Excepcional on tap — and a bottle list with the city's craft brewers.

Tip Nº 02

Bar prices here run about £4.50 a pint versus £6.50 in Concert Square. The £2 saving for a starter pint pays for the next round at the Cavern Club.

Tip Nº 03

International Inn's bar is open until 22:30 and last orders are strict — it's a quieter evening venue with less of a bar-crawl energy.

Tip Nº 04

Malacuna's bar is essentially a 'have a beer while you play pool' setup. Don't book Malacuna for the bar; book it for the central location.

Tip Nº 05

The Pod's bar is a back-of-house serving hatch — primarily for matchday football crowds. Functional, not a real social bar.
