Liverpool Shared KitchenRanked guide

Liverpool Hostels with a Shared Kitchen

Liverpool food costs run a familiar British arc: cheap chains and chippies at the bottom, mid-tier independents on Bold Street at £12-18 a plate, then a long jump to Sunday-roast prices at The Philharmonic and full restaurants on Hope Street. Cooking your own dinner two or three nights of a five-night stay is the difference between a £200 and a £300 food bill — and all five rated-7 Liverpool hostels in our list have a self-catering kitchen, but they're not equal. Royal Chambers' commercial-style kitchen is the standout (three hobs, two fridges); the others are functional but smaller.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I stayed at Royal Chambers for four nights of a five-night Liverpool trip and cooked three of those evenings. Aldi at Old Haymarket on day one — bag of pasta, tin of tomatoes, garlic, half a chicken — total £6. Day two I bought eggs and bread and made a proper full English breakfast for the dorm at 9:00, three other guests joined in, contributed beans and bacon. Day three was a Liverpool home match and I went to the Boot Room with a backpacker I'd cooked with the night before. The kitchen at Royal Chambers turned out to be the actual social space of my Liverpool stay — better than the bars I'd been planning around.

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Shared Kitchen in Liverpool

Tip Nº 01

Aldi at Old Haymarket is the cheapest grocery within walking distance of every hostel in this list. Open until 22:00, 8 minutes from Royal Chambers, 12 minutes from YHA / International Inn / Malacuna.

Tip Nº 02

Royal Chambers' kitchen is the largest. If you're a serious self-caterer, book here over the others.

Tip Nº 03

Most Liverpool hostel kitchens have a quiet-hours rule: no cooking after 22:30 because the kitchen carries noise to dorms. Plan dinner cook for 19:00–21:00.

Tip Nº 04

Bring oil, salt, and pepper — basic seasonings are hit-and-miss because guests use them up. Aldi sells a 50ml olive-oil starter for £1.20 and a salt-pepper pack for £0.80.

Tip Nº 05

Liverpool's local bread is the Welsh-loaf variety; Iceland and Aldi both stock the Liverpool Crusty Cob loaf for around £1, lasts four days. Best paired with cheese-and-onion crisps for a true Scouse breakfast.
