Tip Nº 01
Walk to Føtex on Frederiks Allé from Danhostel Aarhus City (6 min) — it's open until 23:00 most days, has a deli counter for the rye-bread smørrebrød experiment, and stocks Tuborg cheaper than any 7-Eleven.
Tip Nº 02
If you're at Aarhus Hostel og Hotel south of the city, time the Føtex run for late afternoon (5 minutes' walk) so you can use the BBQ at sunset — locals do this, charcoal is sold at the hostel reception.
Tip Nº 03
At Danhostel Aarhus in Risskov, the bay-view sun deck doubles as the dining table in summer. Bring a bottle from Føtex Risskov, eat outside, watch the bay turn pink at 21:30. The forest air alone is worth the upgrade from a city-centre dorm.
Tip Nº 04
Saturday morning fish market at Fiskerikajen (the harbour) opens 09:00 and packs up around 12:30 — buy what's fresh, get it wrapped in paper, pan-fry that evening at any of the three hostels. Total cost for a fish dinner for two: about 160 DKK.
Tip Nº 05
Aarhus Street Food in the old central bus terminal is the cheap-eats backup if you don't want to cook — 80-110 DKK gets you a plate, and it's a 9-minute walk from Danhostel Aarhus City. Use it on the night you don't feel like the supermarket, not as the default.
