§ 01 — Summary

myNext - Riverside Hotel Salzburg is the quietest budget option on the river — a converted student dorm in Lehen, 12 min from the Hauptbahnhof and a 20 min Salzach walk to the Old Town. 7.9 over 1,843 reviews, hotel-grade private rooms with private bathrooms from €38, free guest mobility ticket, and the calm-and-clean profile YoHo can't match.

§ 02 — The full story

MyNext - Riverside Hotel Salzburg sits at Strubergasse 1 in Lehen, on the north bank of the Salzach where the river bends toward the Müllner Steg footbridge. The location is the soft spot of Salzburg geography: 12 min walk to the Hauptbahnhof, 18 min along the riverside cycling path to the Old Town, 5 min to Augustiner Bräu Mülln. It's hotel-feel rather than hostel-feel — the building was a student dorm in winter and operates as a budget hotel-hostel hybrid the rest of the year.

The property runs around 200 rooms — almost entirely private singles, doubles and triples with private bathrooms. There is a small shared dorm wing but most guests book privates. Rooms are basic-modern: laminate floors, single or double bed, desk, private shower-toilet, free Wi-Fi, kettle with tea and coffee. River-side rooms (Strubergasse-facing) get morning light and a quiet outlook over the cycling path; courtyard-side rooms are darker but slightly cheaper.

There is no in-house bar and no common evening scene — by 8 pm the lobby is empty and guests are out at Augustiner or in the centre. Breakfast (€11 buffet, 7-10 am) is served in a hotel-style dining room. The shared kitchen is a real shared kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave and dishes — useful for self-caterers shopping at the SPAR a 4 min walk away. Reception (24h) hands out a free Salzburg Card mobility ticket on check-in covering all city buses for the duration of your stay — a €30+ savings over 2 nights. Reviewers consistently flag the staff (Felix is named repeatedly), the river view, and the value for money. The flip side: not social, not central, and the courtyard rooms can feel institutional.

§ 03 — Why we love it
  • 01The river view from a Strubergasse-side room is the calmest morning view in any Salzburg hostel — the Salzach is wide here and the cycling path below is quiet until 8 am.
  • 02Private rooms with private bathrooms at €38-65 is rare in Salzburg. YoHo privates start at €78 and Kolpinghaus is summer-only — myNext is the year-round private-room budget hostel.
  • 03Reception is staffed 24h and Felix shows up by name in dozens of reviews — the staff give better mobility advice than the official Salzburg tourist office.
  • 04The free Salzburg Card mobility ticket on check-in is the genuine sleeper perk. Two nights = €11 saved on bus fares; longer stays save more.
  • 05It's a 5 min walk to Augustiner Bräu Mülln (Lindhofstraße), the chestnut-shaded monastery beer hall that beats every hostel bar in Salzburg by a country mile.

Nice hotel, 20 min walking distance to the centre. If you stay overnight in Salzburg you can request a Guest Mobility Ticket pass at the hotel which lets you travel for free inside Salzburg, we did this and it was very convenient.

I like the location. It is just next to the train station, but not noisy at all. Walking along the river from here to the Old Town was not too far. I enjoyed the quietness and the view from the room.
