The Keep Eco Rooms occupies a converted Schwarzstraße townhouse on the north bank of the Salzach in the Elisabeth-Vorstadt neighborhood. The location is the practical sweet spot for sightseeing: 7 min walk to Mirabell Palace, 9 min to the Hauptbahnhof for day trips, 15 min over the Müllner Steg to the Old Town. Schwarzstraße runs along the river so the morning walk to the Old Town is the prettiest in any Salzburg hostel.

The building has only 14 rooms across three floors — singles, doubles, twins, triples and one family room. Bathrooms are mostly shared per floor (two rooms have private), which is the single biggest reviewer complaint, but the showers are individual cubicles and the floor traffic is low because the property is small. Rooms are design-conscious in a budget way: old-wallpaper feature walls, vintage armchairs, modern beds, plentiful electrical outlets, warm lighting. Check-in is keypad self-service which works for late arrivals (the door codes work 24h). There is no reception staff after 18h, so this is a property for self-sufficient travelers who don't need a Front Desk. Vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free breakfast options (€10 add-on, 7-9 am) are unusual at this price point — the eco focus is real, not greenwashing. The shared kitchen is small but properly stocked with pans, plates, oils, salt, coffee and tea. There is a small terrace, a restaurant area with morning bakery items, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Reviewers consistently praise the location, the eco ethos, the clean shared facilities and the design touches. The flip side: shared bathrooms, no after-hours staff, no in-house bar scene.
